Appraisal Process

To understand the appraisal process, you must first understand what an appraisal is. A jewelry appraisal is a written document, which is prepared by an independent appraiser, describing your jewelry and giving a value as of a specific date. The written appraisal will include a detailed description of the item(s) including the stone type, size, quality, color and cut along with a current market replacement value. Appraisals on single items are completed while you wait. Larger appraisals are typically completed within a week. Unless otherwise specified, appraisals will reflect the cost to replace your lost item for insurance purposes. We can also appraise items for probate purposes, which will value the item(s) at disposal prices.

We recommend that you keep copies of your receipts for jewelry valued at a few hundred dollars or more. For items that require a written appraisal, most insurance companies will need an up to date appraisal, typically completed every three to five years. We are happy to discuss the appraisal process with you and answer any questions you may have.
